Karnataka State Open University, Mysore is a name of choice for distance education in India. The university was established by the Government of Karnataka to provide distance education for those who can not attend classes full time or part-time education at universities. The University has been recognized by the University of Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi. KSOU is a regular member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Delhi.

KSOU offers a range of distance learning programs leading to degrees at the doctoral level up as well as various diploma and certificate programs. Several multi-level, inter-related programs for IT cooperation with Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou), New Delhi, is in preparation. None declared fit to receive central support / UGC § 12 (B) of UGC Act, 1956.
