The Institute of Medical Science, BHU, conducts a BHU Pre- Medical Test (PMT, which is an All India level Entrance Examination for admission of the eligible candidates to its MBBS course and other courses available under the Institute of Medical Studies (IMS).

Established in 1916 by Pundit Madan Mohan Malviya, BHU is one of the largest residential universities in Asia, with over 20,000 students. It’s main campus spread over 1,300 acres, and is located in Barkachha in Mirzapur district, about 60 km (37 mi) from Banaras.

BHU is organized into 4 institutes and 14 faculties (streams) and more than 140 departments, providing extensive course in varied spectrum of academics. Such as arts, commerce, science, social science, fine arts, Visual arts etc.

Banaras Hindu University Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) – All India Competitive Written Test.

Course: MBBS (71 seats)

Exam: There are two stages of exam:

  1. PMT/PAT-Screening
  2. PMT- Main

The candidates seeking admission to MBBS/BDS Course 2016 in the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU must register themselves online in the prescribed application form available on the BHU website ( alongwith the processing fee. However, the admission will be done on the basis of their merit in the AIPMT – 2016 examination.

Tentative counselling for admission to UG Courses (MBBS/BDS) will be publish in first week on July 2016. Individual letters to the successful candidates based on their rank in the AIPMT 2015 will be sent by Registered post/Speed Post giving the exact date of counselling. The candidates are advised to check the BHU/IMS website from time to time for updates.

Those students who have not got registered with the Director, IMS,BHU will not be considered for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses 2016 through IMS, BHU Counselling. However, mere registration does not guarantee admission to MBBS/BDS courses 2016.

Candidate should be passed intermediate, 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks for general and 40% for SC and ST category.

Candidates appearing in qualifying examination may also apply.

Some requisite details in relation to the BHU PMT are stated below:

1:- It is an All India Level Entrance Test held for all the candidates who wish to take admissions in the MBBS Program of the university in the Institute of medical science (IMS).

2:- The entrance exam is organized every year by the Banaras Hindu University in the months of May/ June respectively.

3:- The test is basically conducted at two levels which include –Prelims and Mains respectively. The students who are eligible can appear in the Prelims Exam which is then followed by the Mains Exam which is held shortly after the Prelims for all the qualified candidates only.

4:- The question paper is basically divided into two section and the question paper containing objective type multiple choice based questions of total 200 Marks.

5:- The question paper is based on the questions on Biology, Chemistry and Physics respectively. Each correct answer carries 2 marks and a deduction of 1 mark for each incorrect answer attempted by the candidate.

6:- The second section of the paper contains a total of 100 questions; divided into 25 questions from each subject (Physics/ Chemistry/ Botany) of the paper.

7:- The application details are informed online at the website of the BHU. The candidates can apply in either online or offline modes for the concerned exam. The application forms are released by the first week of January for all the candidates.

8:- The candidates can pay the application fee through the Demand Drafts drawn in favor of “The Registrar Banaras Hindu University”. The candidates can even pay the application fee online at the website of the university through debit/ credit cards for this purpose.

9:- The BHU PMT 2016 is scheduled on May and June for the Prelims and the Main tests respectively.

Age Requirements:

Completed 17 years but not crossed 25 years as on 31st December of the year of admission.

How to apply?

  1. Through official website, candidate can fill the BHU PMT form. The same can be easily downloaded and filled offline.
  2. Fees or payment process can be monitored both offline and online.
  3. Candidates applying online can make payment through Debit or Credit card.
  4. Candidates who are applying offline can do payment by means of DD in favor of BHU.

(b) BY POST: From the Office of the Director (PMT-Cell), Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-221005 by sending a written request through Registered Post along with Crossed Demand Draft/Bankers Cheque (MICR only) of Rs. 1300/- for General/OBC candidates and Rs. 900 for SC/ST candidates of a Nationalized Bank, drawn in favour of "The Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU" payable at Varanasi.

BHU PMT Exam Pattern:

  1. BHU PMT exam contain multiple choice questions.
  2. Exam is conducted in two sections.
  3. There are total 200 questions, 50 queries from each subject.

1st section syllabus:

  1. Includes questions from Biology (Botany and Zoology), Chemistry and Physics.

For every correct answer 2 marks can be gained and for every incorrect answer 1 mark will be deducted out of the total.

2nd section syllabus:

  1. This section includes total 200 multiple choice questions.
  2. There are total 100 questions, 25 questions from each subject.

For every correct answer 2 marks can be gained and for every incorrect answer 1 mark will be deducted out of the total.
