CBSE Problem Solving Assessment (CBSE-PSA)

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline for students to get one more chance at improving their problem solving assessment (PSA) scores. The schools can now submit details of the students online till November 15. Several CBSE schools in the state that had missed the deadline had approached the board in this regard.

Students who haven't fared well in class IX will have the option of improving their PSA score in Class X. They can sit for the test with Class IX students of session 2014-15 in November 2014. The best scores will be reflected in the final certificatein caseof those applying for improvement.

The Board has published handbooks on Problem Solving Assessment [PSA] for Classes IX and XI. The same are available at all the Regional Offices of the Board. The handbooks can also be had by placing order online or by sending a demand draft of requisite amount favouring Secretary, CBSE, Shiksha Kendra, 2, Community Centre, Preet Vihar, Delhi-110092 payable at Delhi.

CBSE PSA Class 9 & 11 Results Nov 2014

The Problem Solving Assessment (Summer Bound) of Classes IX and XI as well as for Classes X/XII (Improvement)  2014-15 is scheduled to be held on November 20, 2014 from 10.00 AM to 12.00 Noon.

CBSE have introduced a Problem Solving Assessment (CBSE-PSA) for class 9th and 11th students last year.

Most importantly, the PSA will be counted towards formative assessment-4 (FA-4) which is 10% of total assessments of Class IX. This assessment will also be carried forward towards the FA-4 in Class X. This score will be reflected in one language (English or Hindi), mathematics, science, and social science with effect from session 2012-13 for Class IX and 2013-14 for Class X. The same score will be reflectedin FA-4for classIX and Class X.

CBSE-PSA, which will be compulsory for students of classes IX and XI, is likely to be conduct on 10th, January 2014 and carry 90 marks. There will be 60 questions of MCQ type.

Although there is no specific syllabus for CBSE-PSA, it will assess students in the following areas - quantitative reasoning, qualitative reasoning, Maths & MAT, English, Biology, Physics, Social Science and language conventions.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to initiate a 'Problem Solving Assessment' (CBSE-PSA) for students of classes 9th and 11th from the second term of the 2013-14 session.
You are aware that Problem Solving Assessment (PSA) for students of classes IX and XI was conducted by the Board on 16th February, 2013 for the previous academic session. It was primarily aimed at assessing students’ reasoning skills, analytical skills, thinking skills and other higher order mental abilities. However, since winter closing schools were closed during the months of January and February due to severe cold conditions, this test could not be conducted for these schools. A communication dated 3rd May, 2013 in this regard was sent to all Winter Closing Schools separately.

CBSE-PSA, which will be compulsory for students of classes IX and XI, is likely to be conduct on 10th, January 2014 and carry 90 marks. There will be 60 questions of MCQ type.

According to Vineet Joshi, chairman, CBSE, It is a widely acknowledged fact that research and analytical skills, ability to apply basic concepts of different subjects, solve application-based problems in mathematics and science, comprehend and analyse written text and effective communication are the skills, which ensure success in higher studies and professional areas.

"These dimensions of 21st Century life-skills will assist learners in acquiring higher order thinking skills such as problem-solving and decision- making. There will be no separate time-tables or periods for teaching or practice of PSA in schools."

Procedure for online verification and confirmation of No of Candidates Registered for PSA 2013-14:

1. Login to CBSE website cbse.nic.in and click on the link “Confirmation of No of Candidates Registered for PSA 2013-14”

2. Enter your existing user-id and password as used for online submission of registration and LOC of class IX/XI and X/XII respectively.

3. After login-in click on the link “Confirmation of No. of Candidates Registered for PSA 2013-14”

4. A table showing Class wise (Class 9 and Class 10(Improvement for PSA) or (Class 11 and Class 12 (Improvement for PSA) /medium wise No. of candidates registered and the Q P being supplied for PSA shall be displayed.

  • If Class wise/medium wise No. of candidates registered is less than or equal to Q P being supplied for PSA then click on “I confirm that Q P supplied is sufficient ” button
  • If Class wise/medium wise No. of candidates registered is more than the Q P being supplied for PSA then  click on “I confirm that Q P supplied is in-sufficient ” button and
    the Class wise/medium wise No. of Candidates Registered may be submitted and click on “Confirm Update Registered No. of Candidates” button to submit your changes.

In case the school has not submitted the above information online latest by 15.12.2013, then it shall be assumed that the QP supplied to your school are sufficient.
