Adopting the philosophy for linear Diversification, System and Software Division of SRM was formed in the year 1998. The Division had brought in its fold M/s SOFIL Information Systems Pvt. Ltd., an ISO 9001 company; both the Companies were amalgamated in the year 2002, under the new brand name ‘SRM Technologies' thus providing Software Solutions to the Global Market as well.

EASWARI ENGINEERING COLLEGE

The establishment of " Easwari Engineering College for Women" during the Academic Year 1996-97 heralded a bold step towards “Women's Empowerment” in the State Capital Chennai. The focus for providing Engineering Education for Women stems from considerations that women compete and excel very well both academically and professionally in Computer Science and Engineering and in IT related areas. This was a pioneering effort in the field of Technical Education in Tamil Nadu.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES The Training and Placement Department, with its Office for HOD, Industry Interaction Cell and the Offices for the Assistant Professor/ Student Affairs, the Placement Executive and the Office staff, is housed in the heart of the Campus, to provide easy reach for the Industries, Faculty and Students. The Office with its Modern Facilities, Internet and Software provides the support for the efficient organization and running of the Department; the Faculty and Technical Staff are well trained in the operations of the Department for Campus Interviews and in organizing the Developmental Programs for the students and faculty. FACULTY PROFILE Mr. V.ChandraSekar – Professor & Head – Placement & Training : • • Experience of over two decades in Academics , along with numerous visits to Small, Medium and Large Industries in the country, with a strong sense of commitment to equip the students of the College, with necessary skills, expected by Industries. Dr. Prasanna Sivanandam – Asst. Professor (Student Affairs): • Doctorate qualification in Psychology • 5 years of experience; heading the Training Wing of the Department, to provide necessary Training as well as Counseling. Placement Coordinators from each and every Department and Technical Staff of the Department are well trained. Staff Support and Services are rendered by the Department, Main Office and the Personnel of the Department concerned when specifically required. STUDENT COUNSELLING AND EMPOWERMENT This Activity is our Thrust Area and our Objective is “To discover and develop Skills and Abilities in Students to face the challenging environment and focus on their Layers of Strength: Emotional, Academic, Professional and Social”. WORKING ARRANGEMENT AND METHODOLOGIES FOR COUNSELING AND TRAINING i] COUNSELLING CENTRE On the basis of a Reference from class coordinators of the Department concerned, this 'Centre' undertakes Counseling to supplement the 'Department Counselling'. Generally unresolved Issues come up and these are due to plurality of Causes, such as Depression, Impact of Society, Environment, Poor Academic performance, Behavioural problems and extreme reasons for lack of attendance. ii] TIME SLOT Requisite time has been adequately provided every day, catering to the entire Spectrum of Demands of Students, Faculty and Parents iii] CATEGORIES OF PROBLEMS Severity of Syllabus, Teaching Methodologies, Lack of Confidence and Motivation, Lack of Skills, Time Management, Tools for Acquiring Skill sets and Abilities are the issues focused-on for providing special attention to students individually or collectively. iv] COUNSELLING COMMITTEE This committee has been constituted, with the assistance of the students from all Departments to coordinate and consolidate, all common Proposals so as to further the Cause of Education and Placement and also promote the interests of students. v] CONFIDENCE BUILDING AND TRAINING For successful placement of students, Training activities provide the Core-Competence and also develop the requisite strength. Systematic and Structured Programs are conducted from the very first year onwards. The number of sessions and modules vary from year to year. The Training activities are conducted by pooling in our own internal Resources of Staff from Department of MBA and capable and willing Placement Coordinators of all Departments. This focused Activity is conducted systematically by including and Scheduling Training, in the Regular Time Table itself every week. FOR THE PRE-FINAL AND FINAL YEAR STUDENTS Besides the above initiatives, Professionals, Experts and Specialists in the Field are invited to highlight on Current Trends, to augment and intensify our efforts for Training and Guidance to our Senior Students. Depending upon the severity of the Issue, Stressful Environment, Parental or Societal Expectations and Competition, optimum solutions to empower, cope and overcome the situation, are formulated, under the guidance of Concerned Faculty/ Head of Department/ Principal/ Management. Such consistent, Constructive and Enduring Efforts, invariably echo satisfaction in the minds of Students, Faculty and also the Parents . Progress is being steadily monitored every month, directly and through the concerned Counselors, who remain constant throughout the Course. The holistic development of student, by fostering positive, emotional and academic Advancements, enables realisation of our Objectives in PLACEMENT. CAMPUS INTERVIEW ACTIVITIES The Placement Department, on its own and / or in association with SRM ENGINEERING COLLEGE / OTHER LEADING INSTITUTION[S], maintains a very close Interaction and Coordination with Industries to assess Career Opportunities for our Students. Apart from Networking, Communications, Correspondence and Personal Meetings, well organised Campaigns are held to project our Strengths and create job opportunities. INDUSTRY INSTITUTE INTERACTION CELL (I I I CELL) Based on the suggestion of Government of India and the ANNA UNIVERSITY , the College has formalised the functioning of the 'already working Industry Interaction Cell', under Placement Department, in the year 2003. Following are the Objectives: * To extend Technical and Project consultancy services by undertaking Research and Development Programmes for Industries and Institutions. * To establish continuous and long standing Relationship with Industries and Research Establishments through MOUs and thus contribute towards Industrial Development. * To provide Technical Training for 'staff and personnel of Industries' for mutual benefit * To arrange Training for EEC Staff / Students in Industry and secure Industrial Training, Projects and ultimately leading to excellent Placement. CAREER GUIDANCE Pursuit of Higher Studies Apart from encouraging students for Entrepreneurship and placement, the Department identifies the Aptitudes of the Students for Higher Studies; accordingly, the Department arranges 'Guidance' through Lectures by eminent personalities so as to assist the students in making their right choice regarding the Subjects, Courses and Universities for Higher Studies, both in India and abroad. DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND IT Associations / Society / Guest Lectures Department of Computer Science and Engineering regularly arranges for both student seminars and Guest Lectures at the Auditorium every week. Guest Lectures on current and emerging topics are delivered by eminent persons from various reputed organizations. Lectures cover Topics such as Image Analysis by Dr.V.Subbiah Bharathi, Head of Department. Easwari Engineering College is a member of Computer Society of India. The Student Chapter attached to CSI consists of members from various Departments. WORKSHOPS/ SEMINARS/SYMPOSIUM/CONFERENCE ASSOCIATION OF COMPUTER ENGINEERS • Established in 2001 • 470 Student members • Organizes Seminars and Guest Lectures regularly • The Department magazine ‘Insight' is released every year AURA' 04 • State Level Technical Symposium is being Conducted regularly every year. • Events Like Paper Presentation, Technical Quiz, Adzap, Debugging, Dumb Charades, Animation and Design are conducted. • Paper Presentation Topics Include: Biomedical Engineering, Man Machine Interface, Nanotechnology, Biometrics, N/W Security / Cryptography. • Overwhelming response of more than 300 participants from various colleges all over Tamil Nadu. • Regular symposium is conducted in the name of 'Kratos'. For the conduct of this Annual Symposium, students from the Department were elected as President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and Joint Secretary. INDUSTRY / INSTITUTE INTERACTION (III CELL) The Department believes in extensive and intensive Industry – Institute Interaction in all possible ways viz. Inplant Training of students in industries, project work in industries, frequent industrial visits, inviting eminent personalities from industries to deliver technical talks on latest advancements, practices in industries and Project Consultancy. MoUs MoUs have been concluded with Sofil, RJP Pvt. Ltd., Innovators India, Digital Technology Pvt. Ltd., Sands Instrumentation Pvt Ltd. and VI Micro Systems Pvt. Ltd. The scope of these MoUs covers the following: • Conducting Training Programme at our premises for staff from Industries. • To organize special lectures by experts on mutually convenient dates on cost free basis for the Faculty and Students. • Provide infrastructure for the conduct of training and lectures by the industry. • To undertake joint working, at faculty level and R & D work to establish center for excellence. Efforts are in hand to finalize MoUs with many other leading industries. SPECIAL PROJECTS Students have carried out Real-Time projects with Leading IT and other industries like Pentafour Technologies, Pentasoft Technologies, Wipro Infotech, Polaris Software Lab, HCL Technologies, Tata Infotech, Reliance Infocom, Vi Micro Systems, Southern Railways, Indian Overseas Bank etc. In addition to the above, Technical Experts from these Industries were invited for special lectures. CONSULTANCY The Consultancy work cover projects such as computerization of SRM Hospitals , Libraries and Attendance and Academic Performance Recording System for other Colleges of the Group and Patient Information System for Multi-specialty Hospitals. PLACEMENT & HIGHER STUDIES Each year CSE students are placed in reputed organizations like Infosys, Wipro, iNautix, iGate, Birlasoft, Microland, HP, Cognizant Technologies Ltd. The placement and training department makes meticulous efforts in training the students in their Group Discussion, Mock Technical Interview and conducts Workshops in Career Development. The third year students are trained in written test based on aptitude and technical context. First and second year students are given training to improve their communication skills through group discussions, seminars and Debates. ACTIVITIES Our Students excel in extra curricular and co-curricular activities also. Students have won the second place in TALENTIA' 05 which is an Annual Inter Departmental Cultural competition conducted at our college. The competition brings out the artistic and creative talents and abilities of the students. In addition, our students are involved in activities like, ROTARACT CLUB Our Rotaract Club has consistently won the Best Activities of the Club include: • 100 Projects in 24 hours, as part of the Centenary Celebrations of Rotary International. This has been widely acclaimed as one of the best presentation in the history of Rotaract Movement. An appreciation letter from Rotary District Governor to our chairman was also received. • LARZIUS – Science Exhibition, Oratorical and Maths Olympiad for school students; an adequate number of students participated from various schools. • District RYLA • The Chennai Marathon – Cheering Squad • Anti–Plastic Campaign Participation. YRC (YOUTH RED CROSS): Acivities Include: • Visit to LIFE HEALTH CENTER an Orphanage • Eye Camp was conducted in alliance with SCHOOL OF OPTOMETRY , • Blood Donation Camp • Seminar at Vivekananda Auditorium – Anna University on the topics chosen by “YUVA SHAKTHI”. • Visit to “ANBUKARANGAL”. • AIDS Awareness Programme. • Tsunami Relief Activities. NSS: Special Camp was conducted for 10 days at Thandalam Activities include: o General Medical Camp in association with SRM General Hospital . o Dental Camp with SRM Dental Hospital . o Nursing Camp focusing on Maternal Care o Importance on rain water harvesting and preventing water-borne diseases. o Awareness on First Aid and ‘Say No to Polythene Bags'. o Visit to Mentally Retarded School, Orphanage, Old Age home. o First Aid Training. Students have been consistently showing enthusiasm and progress. They have won prizes in competitions hosted by leading Institutions; IT students bagged the 'Rolling Trophy' in 2004 in the Inter-departmental cultural festival “ TALENTIA ”. Besides, students of the Department participate in various service club activities like Rotaract (Students Wing of Rotary International), Youth Red Cross, and NSS. The Rotaract excelled in all its Avenues of Service, Community Services, Blood Donation, International Service, Professional Service like 'Professional Development of higher secondary Students' and in Club Service. DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION WORKSHOPS / SEMINARS / SYMPOSIA / CONFERENCES • Students organize State Level Symposium ' QUINTESSENCE' every year. • National level Conference :is held. The response from other colleges and Industries for this Conference was overwhelming. • IEEE / IETE PC : hardware assembling / Trouble-shooting, work shop on Networking and personality development. Scope of MOUs : The Scope is Broad based with the objective of establishing Training and updation of the Research activities of the staff and students in the various emerging areas such as: Embedded systems, DSP applications, VLSI design, Networking and Telecommunication, Developing laboratory facilities and providing Consultancy services in the ongoing Industrial software oriented Projects. Implementation of MOUs • As part of the MOU, SANDS and our Faculty, along with the Students conducted a workshop on “REAL TIME APPLICATIONS OF EMBEDDED SYSTEMS AND DSP ” in April-2005. • In association with Vi Micro Systems Pvt. Ltd., the College has planned to conduct workshops in the forth coming academic year. PLACEMENT AND HIGHER STUDIES Students have been already placed in companies like Infosys, Wipro, CTS, iGate, iNautix, etc., through campus interviews. Talentia - cultural festival is conducted every year. INDUSTRY INSTITUTE INTERACTION CELL Collaborative projects, Industrial consultancy and related Transactions are effected through a III Cell, consisting of nominated members, from the Department and Members from participating Industries. Ltd., Chennai * True Power Solutions, Pondicherry A consultancy project was undertaken by a team consisting of members of the faculty for M/s Kothari Fertilizers Ltd. and conducted 'Energy audit and assessment'. PLACEMENT AND HIGHER STUDIES Students of this Department have consistently earned favorable feedback from Industries which placed them and attracted leading companies like Infosys, MK Electric, Midas Communication, Wipro, CTS, Ford, Satyam, iGate, American Megatrends, Alstom which continue to visit the campus for recruitments and 21 senior class students have been placed already. Around 10 – 15% of the students pursue higher studies in India and abroad and specialize in areas like Power and control, Energy, VLSI, Communication, Bio-medical Instrumentation and Management studies. DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS AND INSTRUMENTATION INDUSTRY INSTITUTE INTERACTION CELL ( I I I CELL ) Collaborative projects, Industrial consultancy and related Transactions are effected through a III Cell, consisting of nominated members, from the Department and Members from participating Industries. MOUs MoUs between the Department and the following Industries have been registered for the activities like training, consultancy projects, seminars, guest lectures. student projects and in house R & D activities. * Vi Micro System, Chennai * SANDS Instrumentation Pvt. Ltd., Chennai * True Power Solutions, Pondicherry A consultancy project was undertaken by a team consisting of members of the faculty for M/s Kothari Fertilizers Ltd. and conducted 'Energy audit and assessment'. ASSOCIATION / SOCIETY The Students' Chapter of Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society ISA (USA) is well established and is very active. Adopting a systematic approach, the society provides ample opportunities for students to deliberate with leading academics and experts from reputed industries on significant current trends in the field of Instrumentation. WORKSHOPS / SYMPOSIA / SEMINARS / CONFERENCES Student Association of EIE has been constituted; the following activities are organized: 1. Conducting Workshops, Symposia, Seminars and Conferences by professionals from various colleges / Universities / Industries. 2. Conducting Technical Design competitions and 3. Organizing Industrial Training and involving students in Development Projects. Also the Association conducts the annual symposium “INSTRUBLITZ” in the area of Electronics and Instrumentation. The main events are technical paper presentation, quiz, collage and job marketing. Through such symposia, students get an exposure to the recent trends and developments in the technical fields. Chief Executives of HR Departments and CEOs of industries give excellent briefing to the students regarding interview techniques. Departmental Magazine titled www.eie.com is released annually. STUDENTS PROJECTS Students have brought out many innovative and application projects like Barcode Scanner and Tele remote control for various electronic / electrical appliances with the help of our Department staff. MANAGEMENT STUDIES GUEST LECTURES, WORKSHOPS, SEMINARS AND SYMPOSIUMS Guest lectures and workshops are conducted frequently by eminent personalities from the Industries, which provide valuable opportunities to meet and Interact with Professionals; these Inputs benefit the students. INDUSTRY INSTITUTION INTERACTION There is a pressing need for Industry – Institution partnership to deal with the powerful impact of globalization on Business. The Department with its faith in long-term and sustainable collaborations has developed the following meaningful and mutually beneficial partnership with some of the local industrial units: • Development of 'context - based knowledge' through high quality research and case studies. • Development of skills and competencies of students through specific problem solving projects relevant to the industry. • Providing hands-on experience through meaningful summer training. • Periodic visits to the industries, by the faculty and students, to review various latest trends in management theory and practice. PLACEMENT AND TRAINING A senior professional with Industrial experience heads the Placement and Training Department of the College and is duly supported by Assistant Professor with specialisation in Psychology and Staff representatives' viz., Placement Coordinators from the different Departments. Following are our thrust areas: • Confidence building, Development of Soft Skills, Core-competence and Personality. • Campus and off-campus interviews • Guest Lectures for Students. • Development of right Attitude • Coordination with Industries • Preparation of CV • Summer Training and Projects • Preparation for interviews
Infrastructure: 
LABORATORIES At present, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has 8 modern laboratories with total area of 2600 Sq. M. 01. Engineering Practices Lab. 02. Manufacturing Technology Lab. 03. Computer Aided Design (CAD) Lab. 04. Thermal Engineering Lab. 05. Dynamics Lab 06. Metrology Lab 07. Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Lab. 08. Strength of Materials Lab. 09. Mechatronics Lab. All the laboratories are well equipped with sufficient floor area. Each laboratory is headed by a Lab In-Charge (Faculty) and assisted by a supporting staff. Additional laboratories and equipments are being added as and when required. COMPUTER FACILITIES Facilities, Systems and equipments provided are as per current specifications and completely fulfill and even exceed the laid down norms and standards of AICTE and Anna University . Some of the facilities are Pentium-IV computers networked with AutoCAD 2005 Software, LAN Server and Pentium-IV Computers with Internet connection. LIBRARY FACILITIES Apart from about 500 Titles and 1700 volumes of Text and Reference books in the field of Mechanical Engineering in the central library, the Department library has about 150 volumes. The central library subscribes to national and international journals and magazines in Mechanical Engineering with web account for IEEE and IEE journals and magazines. In addition, the college has acquired the membership of leading Libraries viz. British Council Library, IIT Madras Library and the Anna University Library. FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS Faculty Members are encouraged to take up part-time Ph.D. Programs at Anna University or at SRM Deemed University . The faculty keep themselves abreast of the rapidly changing technology and the latest developments in their respective fields of specialization. They are encouraged to attend at regular intervals, short term courses conducted by various Universities and IITs, as well as some of the reputed private institutions and Organizations. Faculty Development Programs to upgrade the Teaching skills of all Faculty, particularly new teachers, are arranged regularly with the help of Technical Teacher Training Institute, Chennai. Faculty members have been consistently participating in Workshops, Conferences and Seminars and have contributed through publications and presentations. COUNSELLING SYSTEM A comprehensive and steady counselling program provides individual attention to tackle the variety of problems, faced by the students by associating 20 students to each faculty member in the Department. The faculty monitors their attendance, progress and achievements, shortcomings, academics and personal problems. Students requiring extra guidance or coaching are identified. The counsellor also informs the parents about the progress of the students and any remedial reasons needed for the improvement of the students. The students continue to be with the same counsellor for the entire period of their study in the college. This provides an opportunity for both the student and the faculty to cultivate closer relationship and strengthen the teaching learning process. In addition, each class has a class coordinator who addresses the needs of the class as a whole. To supplement this effort, a qualified and experienced faculty (a Ph.D. in Psychology) in the Rank of Assistant Professor is available, exclusively for counseling the students, in the newly created 'Counseling Centre' in the college. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION A Mechanical Engineering Association named “Society of Mechanical Engineers” has been formed for various departmental activities. All the students and faculty members of the department are members of this society. An executive body, comprising of nominated faculty members and student representatives with the HOD as the Patron is functioning satisfactorily. Activities of the Society include arranging guest lectures, symposia and seminars by senior academicians from leading Institutions, experts and specialists drawn from industries of repute. GUEST LECTURERS / SEMINARS/ CONFERENCES Guest lectures by experts from Industries and Academic Institutions are scheduled periodically. This also helps to develop Industry Institute Interaction . The Department along with the departments of ECE, EIE and EEE hosted a National Conference on “Industrial Automation: Emerging Trends” in January 2005, which received overwhelming response from researchers of R&D organizations, industrial establishments and educational institutions. Industrial Visits are organized under the guidance of HOD & Faculty Members and well coordinated academically and professionally. The Department strives to develop long term relationships with Industries and market the students' talents effectively. DEPARTMENTAL NEWS LETTER The Department releases a News Letter named “Quest” every month. Departmental activities and Technical articles from faculty members and students are getting published in the letter. An Editorial Board consisting of faculty members and students publish the News Letter. STUDY SKILL AND PLACEMENT TRAINING PROGRAM Study skill programs for the first year students are conducted with the help of outside experts. Similarly placement training programs are arranged for the second to final year students with the assistance of expert placement trainers. OUR FUTURE PLANS The Department plans to progressively commence Post Graduate Courses which will ultimately lead to the commencement of Doctoral Degree program. Our immediate plan is to further modernize the CAD and other Laboratories by adding latest equipments and software which will facilitate early start of P.G. Programs in specific areas such as CAD / CAM and Energy Engineering and Management.
