There are three categories of programmes:
1. Programmes which anyone fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria can join directly;
2. Programmes with limited seats where admission is on the basis of merit list based on prior qualification and experience; and
3. Programmes where admission is through an entrance test.
Majority of the programmes fall in the first two categories. These are offered through the Common Prospectus. For programmes having admission through entrance test, separate Prospectus is available.

The university has marked international presence over the years since establishment. It has developed its teaching facilities and technologies as per the requirements and advancements in the current generation. It has also arranged lectures from many scholars and academic experts for the students in all these years. They have also included Edusat operations in their facilities. As of now, the University is focusing on the online training and distance education conferences that will provide education in a modern way. Current Vice-chancellor is Prof. M Aslam who has earned a doctorate in sociology.

The study centers of the IGNOU have spread all over the world ranging from south to north end. Almost all major cities have been covered in the campus of University. The students can avail of the educational facilities from their home regions while pursuing their profession. Thus, IGNOU has carved a beautiful path for education for the Indian society through its continuous efforts.
You can choose your Study Centre as per your convenience. However, since all our programmes are not available at all the Study centres, you should confirm that the Programme you are applying for is available at the Study Centre opted by you. Normally the Centre opted by you shall be allotted to you. In exceptional cases the University may allot a different Centre due to unavoidable reasons.
