IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA) has evolved from being India's premier management institute to a notable international school of management in just four decades.

The result was the creation of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1961 as an autonomous body with the active collaboration of the Government of India, Government of Gujarat and the industrial sectors.

IIM Ahmedabad Updates 2013:

Eligibility Criteria:
Executives who have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline and have completed 27 years of age as on 31st March of the programme commencement year may apply. Corporate sponsorship is welcome but not essential. Students are selected through a rigorous admissions process that includes GMAT, leadership profiling and personal interviews.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Criteria: An admitted candidate should have a:

  • Good GMAT score
  • Good academic record
  • Substantial work experience that shows some evidence of a supervisory/managerial role in an organization that he/she has worked for.

A clear idea of why he/she prefers IIMA for doing the one year full-time programme and a leadership potential will also help.

IIM Ahmedabad schedule of the admission process: The schedule of the admission process is as follows:

  • Submission of completely filled-in applications for PGPX 2013-14 by August 10, 2012
  • Intimation by PGPX Office to shortlisted candidates by September 15, 2012
  • Interviews of shortlisted candidates during September-October, 2012
  • Intimation by PGPX Office to selected candidates by October 31, 2012
  • Submission by successful candidates of acceptance of offer by November 24, 2012

From the very start the founders introduced the concept of faculty governance: all members of the faculty play an important role in administering the diverse academic and non-academic activities of the Institute. The empowerment of the faculty has been the propelling force behind the high quality of learning experience at IIMA.

The Institute had initial collaboration with Harvard Business School. This collaboration greatly influenced the Institute's approach to education. Gradually, it emerged as a confluence of the best of Eastern and Western values.

Mission of IIMA

IMA's mission is to help India and other developing countries improve their managerial practices both in the private and in the public sectors, and accept greater public policies. It seeks to do this through producing risk-taking leader-managers who will pioneer new managerial practices and set new standards; through producing teachers and researchers who will generate new ideas of International significance; and through purposeful consulting aimed at helping client organizations scale new heights.

IIMA faculty members are active and regular participants in international conferences and symposia. They contribute to international journals and collaborate with a broad range of agencies to develop and execute consultancy projects.
