Kishanchand Chellaram College of Arts, Commerce and Science

Vision:
To emerge as a centre of academic excellence aiming at value based, holistic development of students equipped for global challenges.
Mission:
To disseminate quality education.
Foster academic excellence.
Develop attitudes conducive to lifelong learning.

Kishinchand Chellaram College was established in 1954 under the aegis of the Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board, HSNC(B). It was the second institution that the Management set up in Bombay after it relocated itself in the city, following the aftermath of Partition.

The establishment of this college epitomises the positive side of Partition of India in 1947. The instituting of K.C. and the history of the Board speaks not only of the entrepreneurial spirit of the Sindhi community but also its deeprooted sense of nationalism. Support for the establishment of the college was garnered from the globally scattered Sindhi community, particularly the Kishinchand Chellaram family, after whom the college was named and the Watumulls, who dedicated the ground floor auditorium to the memory of their son, Rama Watumull.

The tribute for the establishment of the college goes to the late founders, Principal K.M. Kundnani and Barrister Hotchand Advani, each of whom with his own expertise helped set up K.C. College as well as several other educational institutions.

Students had been admitted from June 1, 1954 but a formal inauguration of the college was performed by Shri Morarji Desai, (the then Chief Minister of Bombay), on August 15 of the same year. Its first batch comprised 1800 students and within three years the numbers swelled threefold. Thus K.C. made its remarkable entry into the educational arena and soon became a center of educational activity.

The college today has some unique features that were perhaps partially responsible for showcasing the institution: an air-conditioned auditorium with nearly 600 seating capacity, a parquet indoor badminton court and a community hall.

In the annals of the history of education in Mumbai, the name of K. M. Kundnani, the first founder Principal is inscribed in golden letters. Not only did he set up K.C. College, but acted as a key catalyst for steering the expansion policy of the educational institutions of the H.S.N.C.B. Over and above this, he played a stellar role in influencing the educational decision-making bodies of the University of Bombay. During his long and illustrious career that spanned approximately four decades, he was able to take the institution from its infant status to that of a recognized provider of quality education. Principal Kundnani headed the institution till 1992. His end came, as he desired, with his boots on.

K.C. fulfils a unique role of catering to all strata of students-the achievers, first generation learners, women students from minority groups as well as the challenged learners. Catering to such diversity, the institution also acquires multiple roles, from providing quality education, to remedial learning, to maximisation of student potential and welfare.

Admission to K.C. College is a valuable milestone towards the future for any student. Every year the number of applicants far exceeds that of available seats, forcing the institution to resort to criteria permissible within the government rules to select candidates. Most of the students are high achievers, keen to get into professional colleges for medicine and engineering. They opt for K.C. because of the dynamism of its faculty and the proven track record of excellent results every year.

The Institution was awarded A grading by NAAC in the year 2004.
