Siliguri Govt. Polytechnic ( Erstwhile Women’s Polytechnic, Siliguri) was established in the year 1995 in a rented building at Pradhan Nagar. initially two diploma courses namely (1) Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (2) Architecture with 25 students in each stream used to be offered by this institute.
In the year of Oct’1998 this institute has been shifted from Pradhan Nagar to its own building 1 No. Dabgram Colony, Since then gradually many other new & modern courses were opened in the Diploma level.
The institute was renamed as Siliguri Govt. Polytechnic in the year 2004 after it was converted to a Co Educational institute. Siliguri Government fascinates everyone with its sprawling campus, beautiful lush green garden and Colossal building. SLGP is one of the most prominent institutes in the north Bengal region owing to its quality teaching, excellent infrastructure and above all for a perfect ambience required for learning and overall development.

Siliguri is situated on the foot-hills of Himalayas under Darjeeling District in West Bengal. This is unofficially the Head Quarter of North Bengal Districts i.e. District of Malda, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Coochbehar in West Bengal. It has traditionally been on the SILK ROUTE stretching towards Sikkim and beyond to NATHULA PASS on Indo-China border. It is surrounded by Jalpaiguri District in the East and Nepal in the West. Siliguri is also known as gateway of North-East States and Sikkim. Neighbouring countries Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh share their borders with India in this part of the country. It is well accessible to the other parts of the country by different modes of transport
