Sri Venkateswara University - Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati was established in 1954, in the world famous temple town of Tirupati on the sprawling campus of 1000 acres with a panoramic and pleasant hill view. This University stands as a testimony to the wisdom and foresight of great visionaries Late Sri Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Late Sri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, to cater to the educational needs and aspirations of the people of Rayalaseema area. With a great wisdom, the founder of this University have rightly coined the motto “Wisdom lies in proper perspective” for it. The University has grown excellently from strength to strength over the past fifty-two years, as a premier institute of higher learning under the able and committed leaderships of successive Vice-Chancellors starting from Prof. S. Govindarajulu to the present Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Prabhakar Rao. It has gone through greater strides in the transformation of the University in india with acquiring necessary and modern sophisticated instrumentation to catch up with the world competition in academic and research programmes.

Right from its inception, the University has been laying more emphasis on teaching, research and extension activities in different subjects. The range of subject departments, courses and research programmes undertaken and promoted during the last fifty-two years reflect the Sri Venkateswara University’s commitment in promoting socially relevant and inter-disciplinary programmes. The University was started with six departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Economics and Philosophy. The University has eight constituent colleges concerning various conventional and advanced subject, in order to provide good academic and smooth administrative service to one and all. Besides these colleges, it has a PG centre at Kavali. The University has 58 departments, wherein 71 different PG courses and several Diploma and Certificate courses are being run with a total academic faculty strength of 400 and 1500 non-teaching and a student strength of 5000, including research scholars. Several novel and newly emerging PG courses have also been introduced during this academic year. The University has been moving forwards in achieving academic excellence with a strong commitment and dedicated approach, by clearly setting up of a vision of its own. The initiatives taken by the Vice-Chancellor have already started yielding excellent results, in terms of research funding, extension activities and thus keeping the University on the path of excellence.

Placements:

The Placement Cell in S.V.U. College of Engineering has been operational for the last fifteen years, with the dual objective of imparting preparatory coaching to students and listening with the industry to arrange campus selections. The cell is headed by a Teacher, nominated by the Principal and is manned by an office assistant. This is a student-supported activity. Thanks to the untiring efforts of successive Placement Officers and also to the boom in the software industry, quite a good number of graduates passing out of the college could get excellent placement in their final year itself. Oracle Software, Satyam Computers, TCS, Wipro, Sonata, BAAN and CMC are some of the leading software companies visiting the campus regularly. Some manufacturing companies, both in public and private sector, like HAL, HM, L & T, TISCO, ECIL, Voltas picked up students of this college in campus selections in the past. At its peak, the cell could arrange placements for about 50% of its intake strength. The placement cell is doing its best to project the institute and to arrange campus selections.

Student Activity clubs:

The campus creates an environment conducive for activities that reflect Indian culture, heritage and ethos. Activities promoting cultural, emotional, national and communal integration are encouraged. Every year, as a prelude to selecting and sending a team of participants to Inter-University Youth Festivals, our College conducts cultural and literary competitions. Sri Venkateswara University organized the South Zone Inter-university Youth Festival in December 1999. During the days of the conduct of this mega event, the campus became a miniature South India. Interaction with the participants who came from thirty-three Universities all over South India went a long way in promoting a sense of understanding, cooperation and tolerance in the campus. The College provides several avenues for the expression of cultural, literary and artistic creativity among the students, research scholars and the faculty.

Hostel & accomodation:

For Men The Principal, S.V.U. College of Arts and Sciences is the Chief Warden of the Hostels.Additional Chief Warden has direct control of the hostel administration. He has control over 5 Wardens and 12 Deputy Wardens. Hostel administration collectively looks after the day to day activities of 6 messes and 8 Blocks for S.V.U. College Hostels for Men. The details of administrative responsibilities of each of them as entrusted are given below: Discipline The residents shall maintain decency, decorum and sense of personal hygiene in the dining hall and in the blocks. Any resident of the hostels is liable for expulsion from the hostels for any misbehaviour, violation of Hostel rules or default in payment of mess bills. The Sri Venkateswara University College Women’s Hostel comprises six blocks which accommodate all categories of women students admitted into S.V.U. College of Arts and Sciences and S.V.U.College of Engineering. Food is served in 4 messes for Research Scholars, Arts and B.Ed. students, Science students and students of S.V.U. Engineering College. For Women Reading / Common Halls are provided in all the blocks with Television, News papers and various Magazines. The mess is run on no loss and no profit basis following dividing system. All the students are expected to be within the hostel premises by 6:30PM everyday. Research Scholars are, however, permitted upto 8:30PM. Residents are expected to report for attendance at the respective timings. Residents may be permitted to attend Computer courses upto 8:00PM only on special permission after producing letters from their parents to that effect.
