SSC - Staff Selection Commision

Many individuals nowadays have been trying to obtain Government job or subsequent opportunity. Government vacancies are primarily preferred as they ensure job security, fixed pay and a long tenure of years. The institutes affiliated to the government and other related agencies also require trained man-power to accomplish tasks and implement various decisions. The Staff selection commission in India, recruits government employees and various workers in the ministries and agencies.

Establishment of the SSC
The service selection committee was established around 1968, referring to the 47th report of the Estimates committee. Later, it changed its form and became Subordinate Services Commission. In 1977, the commission again changed its name to the Staff selection commission.

Current board of staff selection is a part of ministry of Personnel and Training. The department consists of a chairman, controller of examinations and 2 members.

The board currently overview the selection of Group “B” and Group “C” officers and staff in all departments of Indian Government. It conducts various examinations and controls the results and recruitment.

The commission operates currently from Delhi headquarter. It also has regional offices at following places:

  • Guwahati

  • Chennai
  • Allahabad
  • Bangalore
  • Raipur
  • Chandigarh

Examinations for Staff Selection Commission

The examinations by the board are conducted once in a year for various posts and vacancies for the staff. The syllabus typically depends on the post and its requirements. However, the board expects proficiency in the chosen subjects on at least higher secondary level. It will require level of proficiency at graduate level for the posts which require graduated and qualified personnel.

Preparation for the Examination

If you are planning to appear for the SSC examination and obtain a decent job in Government, then you must comply with the conditions and regulations as declared by the commission. The qualified candidates can register for the examination from their regional centers. This is a competitive exam which includes various subjects like Logic, Mathematics, English, local language and Reasoning ability.
