Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) is a course for those interested in pursuing a career in teaching. The BEd degree is mandatory for higher education in primary and secondary schools. The minimum qualifications for entry under the bed is Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Bachelor of Commerce (HD). While students from arts stream are trained to teach subjects like history, civics, geography and language. Science stream students are trained to teach mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. After the bed, students may pursue Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Indian universities. National Council for Teacher Education(NCTE) is the statutory body regulating education courses in India. The Bachelor primary school (B.El.Ed.) is a four-year vocational training integrated training of primary teachers available after high school (class XII) phase of the school.

Conceptualized by Maulana Azad Centre for Elementary and Social Education of the Ministry of Education, University of Delhi and launched during the academic year 1994-1995, the program is an attempt to address the need for qualified professionals primary school teachers. B.El.Ed. Designed to integrate the study of professional knowledge, human development, knowledge and teaching skills of communication. Both professional and academic opportunities available to students who graduate with a B.El.Ed. degree.

There is a course called Diploma in Education (DED) or TCH designed for teaching in primary schools and kindergartens in India. But the qualification for admission to this course is to switch to pre-university education.
